[ARCHIVED] Crime Reduction

Bloomfield, NJ- The Bloomfield Police Department would like thank the community for their assistance in reducing crime throughout the township. The community’s assistance combined with the department’s dedication have led to a decrease in reportable crime by 15% when compared to this time last year. There are many factors that lead to this type of crime reduction. Our officers have been proactive in patrolling our neighborhoods and have increased their motor vehicle enforcement. This helps maintain traffic safety but also provides a visible representation of the police department’s presence in areas affected by crime. Our detectives follow all available leads once a crime is reported. The detectives often review hours of video footage and interview victims as well as witnesses to ensure that those who commit crimes in Bloomfield are arrested. Knowing that even if they are successful committing the crime they will be apprehended can be a deterrent for criminals. Our community has a pivotal role in criminal detection and investigations. The department receives many tips from concerned citizens who report crime. Our dispatchers help gather the most pertinent information from the community which helps officers respond in a timely manner with as much information as possible. We welcome all tips from citizens. Whether reporting a crime or suspicious activity these tips allow our officers to engage with the public and determine the proper course of action. Assistance from the community also allows our investigations to be more thorough and increases the likelihood of criminal apprehension. Community members and organizations often provide video footage, details of incidents, and help to keep neighborhoods vigilant for suspicious activity.

The Bloomfield Police Department remains committed to serving our community. We are encouraged by this reduction but as summer approaches crime trends typically rise. We will continue our proactive initiative and work with our community partners to best serve our residents. I commend the continued Bravery, Pride, and Dedication of our officers and I am thankful for our community.

Sincerely,

Chief George Ricci
